Evans attended <a title=\"North Texas State University\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/North_Texas_State_University\">North Texas State University<\/a> and <a title=\"William Paterson University\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Paterson_University\">William Paterson University<\/a>, where he studied with <a title=\"Dave Liebman\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dave_Liebman\">Dave Liebman<\/a>, a <a title=\"Miles Davis\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miles_Davis\">Miles Davis<\/a> alumnus. Moving to NYC in 1979 he spent countless hours in lofts playing <a title=\"Jazz standard\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jazz_standard\">jazz standards<\/a> and perfecting his improvisational style. At the age of 22 he joined Miles Davis and was part of his musical comeback in the early to mid 1980s.<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_Evans_%28saxophonist%29#cite_note-Yanow-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> Notable albums recorded with Miles include <i><a title=\"The Man With The Horn\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Man_With_The_Horn\">The Man With The Horn<\/a><\/i>, <i><a title=\"We Want Miles\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/We_Want_Miles\">We Want Miles<\/a><\/i>, <i><a title=\"Star People\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Star_People\">Star People<\/a><\/i>, and <i><a title=\"Decoy (album)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Decoy_%28album%29\">Decoy<\/a><\/i>. He is featured on the <i><a title=\"Petite Blonde\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Petite_Blonde\">Petite Blonde<\/a><\/i> album<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_Evans_%28saxophonist%29#cite_note-Yanow-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> with <a title=\"Victor Bailey (musician)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Victor_Bailey_%28musician%29\">Victor Bailey<\/a>, <a title=\"Dennis Chambers\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dennis_Chambers\">Dennis Chambers<\/a>, <a title=\"Mitch Forman\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mitch_Forman\">Mitch Forman<\/a>, and <a title=\"Chuck Loeb\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chuck_Loeb\">Chuck Loeb<\/a>. Two of his most recent albums <i>Soul Insider<\/i> and <i>Soulgrass<\/i> were nominated for Grammy awards. <i>Soulgrass<\/i> was a ground breaking <a title=\"Bluegrass music\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bluegrass_music\">bluegrass<\/a>\/<a title=\"Jazz fusion\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jazz_fusion\">jazz fusion<\/a> concept involving such musicians as <a title=\"Bela Fleck\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bela_Fleck\">Bela Fleck<\/a>, <a title=\"Sam Bush\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sam_Bush\">Sam Bush<\/a>, <a title=\"Bruce Hornsby\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bruce_Hornsby\">Bruce Hornsby<\/a>, and drummer <a title=\"Vinnie Colaiuta\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vinnie_Colaiuta\">Vinnie Colaiuta<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During the 1980s and 1990s he was a member of the group <a title=\"Elements (band)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elements_%28band%29\">Elements<\/a>. Beginning in 1990 Bill has been touring with his own band playing close to 90 concerts a year worldwide. He has recorded over 17 solo CD&#8217;s and received 2 <a title=\"Grammy Award\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grammy_Award\">Grammy Award<\/a> nominations. He recorded an award-winning CD called <i>Bill Evans &#8211; Vans Joint with the <a title=\"WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WDR_Symphony_Orchestra_Cologne\">WDR Orchestra<\/a><\/i> in 2009. He has played a wide variety of music with his solo projects including bluegrass influenced jazz to funk to contemporary groove and is considered a renaissance man in many circles. Evans has admitted, &#8220;I like to use the instruments used in <a title=\"Americana music\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Americana_music\">Americana<\/a> like the <a title=\"Banjo\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Banjo\">banjo<\/a>, <a title=\"Fiddle\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fiddle\">fiddle<\/a>, <a title=\"Mandolin\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mandolin\">mandolin<\/a> and <a title=\"Steel guitar\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steel_guitar\">steel guitar<\/a>.
